El año sacerdotal convocado por nuestro Santo Padre Benedicto XVI es un llamado a celebrar el sacerdocio, y es también un tiempo especial para orar por los sacerdotes de todo el mundo. Este año aparece en un momento importante para los sacerdotes de los Estados Unidos y de todo el mundo. En estos tiempos, muchas veces los encabezados de los noticieros se enfocan en las debilidades humanas y en los problemas serios por los que han pasado muchos sacerdotes, sin embargo, muy pocos son capaces de ver que la mayoría de nuestros sacerdotes trabajan por la construcción del Reino de Dios de manera fiel, humilde y alegre. La carta del Cardenal Cláudio Hummes, O.F.M., Prefecto de la Congregación para el Clero, se refiere a este año como “Un Año de Oración de los Sacerdotes, con los Sacerdotes y por los Sacerdotes.” El comité ejecutivo de ANSH aprobó unánimemente “El Año Sacerdotal” como el tema central de nuestra reflexión en la próxima convención en Chicago, Illinois. Nos enfocaremos en las dimensiones humana, pastoral y espiritual del Sacerdocio de Jesucristo al que nosotros hemos sido llamados y el mismo que todos compartimos. En la convención, en las diferentes sesiones tendremos el tiempo suficiente, donde como sacerdotes, prodrémos compartir nuestras dificultades, sueños y nuestra fe en el contexto de los diferentes conferencistas y de los temas sobre el Sacerdocio que estudiarémos y reflexionarémos.
Queremos desarrollar nuevos caminos para compartir las Buenas Noticias y el buen trabajo que todos realizamos como sacerdotes religiosos o diocesanos en la viña del Señor, especialmente entre la población Hispana de Católicos que continúa creciendo en nuestro país. De especial importancia es la promoción de las vocaciones al sacerdocio y a la vida religiosa entre nuestros jóvenes Latinos. Éste siempre ha sido parte del trabajo de ANSH, queremos seguir buscando juntos nuevas estrategias que puedan ayudarnos en la promoción vocacional.
Estamos muy contentos de estar en la hermosa ciudad de Chicago, queremos personalmente agradecer a nuestros hermanos sacerdotes de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago por ser los anfitriones de nuestra convención, y de una manera muy especial queremos agradecer la cálida bienvenida de Su Eminencia Francis Cardenal George, O.M.I., Arzobispo de Chicago. Esperamos verlos a todos ustedes miembros de ANSH, los seguimos motivando a invitar a más sacerdotes para que se conviertan en miembros de nuestra organización. The Year for Priests is the call of our beloved Pope Benedict XVI as a celebration of the priesthood and a time of prayer for priest all over the world. This comes in an important time for all priests of the United States and throughout the world. Often times news headlines are focused on the human weakness and the grave issues that have faced our priests, yet few if any stories are focused on the majority of our priests who do God’s work faithfully, humbly, and joyfully. The recent letter from Cardinal Cláudio Hummes, O.F.M., Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, calls this year “A Year of Prayer by Priests, With Priests and for Priests”. The executive board unanimously approved The Year for Priests to be the central theme of reflection for our upcoming convention in Chicago, Illinois. We will focus on the human, pastoral and spiritual dimensions of the Priesthood of Jesus Christ that we have been called to share in. Of particular emphasis in the convention is ample time for breakout sessions where we as priests can share with one another our struggles, dreams and faith in context to the various speakers and topics on the Priesthood we will study and reflect on.
We are also excited to develop new ways to share the Good News and the good work that we all accomplish as religious and diocesan priests working in the vineyard of the Lord, especially among our Hispanic population of Catholics that continues to grow in our country. Of special importance is the promotion of vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life among our young Latinos. This has always been part of the work of ANSH and we want to continue discussing together new strategies that can help in the promotion of vocations.
We are excited to be in Chicago and want to personally thank our brother priests from the Archdiocese of Chicago for hosting our convention there, but most especially for the warm welcome given to us from His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago.
